Ants

Ants

There is a wide variety of ants in the UK, the most common domestic pest is the common black ant (Lasius niger) which is 2-3mm in length and shiny black in appearance. Usually forms nests outside in gardens, under paving stones and in walls.

Workers are very active foraging on a wide range of foods including sweet substances can become a pest if foraging indoors. Nest can last many years but each year young queens will leave as "flying ants" to start new ones.

Mice

Mice

The house mice is very common in urban and rural buildings all over the UK. Mostly found indoors and very rarely outdoors. Tell tale signs of an infestation is presence of droppings and evidence of gnawing. The House mouse have a very fast reproductive cycle, An average female mouse can have 30 to 35 babies per year.

Thoroughness is required for the successful control of mice it requires careful planning and close understanding of the biology and habits of mice to achieve eradication.
Cockroaches

Cockroaches

Primarily nocturnal, favours warm, humid conditions. Found in heated buildings not normally outside. 12- 15mm in length. Needs access to water and will eat a wide variety of foods. Prefer narrow harbourages close to food and water source.

Requires a very thorough planed treatment. An integrated approach to cockroach control is recommended. The extent and degree of the infestation need to be determined using monitoring devices as well as determining the specie. Most treatments will rely on the use of baits, effectiveness will increase with good hygiene practises and removal of food residue.
